What is a recurve bow?
Recurve bows are made to curve away from you when drawn, translating into more forceful shots. The difference between recurve and other bows is that the string touches sections of the limbs of recurve bows when the bow is strung. A recurve bow stores more energy than an equivalent straight-limbed bow, potentially giving a greater amount of cast to the arrow. A recurve bow will permit a shorter bow than the simple bow for a given arrow energy and this form was often preferred by archers in environments where long weapons could be cumbersome, such as in brush and forest terrain, or while on horseback.
Archery recurve bows are also the ones only permitted for use in competitive archery, with bows made of carbon fiber, laminated wood cores, or fiber glass layers. The riser, where the two limbs are attached, are normally made from magnesium or aluminum. Beginners, however, start out with plastic or wood risers.
Ask any recurve bow hunter and they will tell you that regardless if you get a new or used recurve bow they are the best bows on the market for hunting. So before you plan your next big trip, plan to buy a recurve bow.
